Judah and Tamar

from $29.00

The Bible Binge - Art for an episode about Genesis 38. The story has a lot of dark and heavy topics in it. God kills two of Judah’s sons because they were evil in his sight. There is a lot of sexual stuff from prostitution to ‘spilling’ of semen on the ground to avoid pregnancy. It’s also part of the origin story of the tribe of Judah, The same geological line that would eventually give us Jesus, that’s why He’s called the lion of Judah. But the lion was the tribes symbol long before Jesus’s time on earth. The lion here is a representation of the Judah’s family and the snakes represent a kind of poisoned. They give it an uneasy quality to play up this dark set of events.
